Mr. Kovalchik
concentrates his practice in civil tort, commercial, employment,
and estate litigation. Prior to joining Thompson O'Brien in
June 2006, Mr. Kovalchik was an associate with a respected
local government litigation firm in North Atlanta, where he
represented numerous north Georgia counties in the areas of
land use and zoning; alcoholic beverage licensing; special
permits; platting of preliminary, final and revised plats;
impact fees; permitting (including land disturbance, certificates
of occupancy, and building permits); text amendments to zoning
ordinances and comprehensive development plan maps; intergovernmental
agreements; tree preservation/removal, and other land use
related issues.
Mr. Kovalchik also currently serves as general counsel for
several corporate clients located in the North Atlanta area.
In that capacity, he provides advice across the entire spectrum
of corporate matters, including business formation and organization,
commercial contracts, dissolutions and liquidations, executive
contracts and compensation, non-compete and non-disclosure
agreements, and pricing policies and strategies.
Mr. Kovalchik has also successfully represented both self-insureds
and insurers in general liability and insurance litigation,
transportation and trucking law, products liability, and premises
liability matters. He has represented both plaintiffs and
defendants in construction contract disputes, enforcement
of covenants not to compete, civil RICO claims, employment
contract disputes, personal injury and civil rights litigation.
