Experience

Ilona is fluent in English and Russian, and conversational in German. She was employed as in-house counsel for Russia’s largest railway station, where she focused her practice on contract law, transportation disputes, personal injury, and other related litigation.

Upon her move to the United States, Ilona clerked with a prestigious Vermont based law firm concentrating on a full range of legal services in international law and representation of creditors, bankruptcy trustees, and creditors. Ilona became a member of the Vermont Bar in 2011 and continues to remain licensed to practice law in Vermont. Ilona worked with a Chapter 7 panel trustee for the District of Vermont, where she represented bankrupt debtors in Chapter 7, 11, 13, and 12 reorganizations and liquidations, as well as worked on international contracts, agreements, and other commercial arrangements cases. In addition, Ilona serves as a court-approved mediator for family and domestic matters.

Ilona is a frequent lecturer of bankruptcy-related matters. She is a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and was a guest lecturer at the 2012 NABT Conference, where she spoke at the Trustee Assistant program on the topics of fraudulent transfers and preference litigation, and at the 2020 NABT Conference, where she spoke on the topics of Trustee Office Management.

Ilona has written several publications in Russian on commercial law and protection of consumer rights in transportation contracts (by air and land).
